Visit the Collegiate Church of Osuna, the most outstanding monument

He most important monument in Osuna, The most prominent feature, which overlooks it from its hill, is its famous Collegiate Church of Santa María de la Asunción, located next to the famous University of Osuna.

From the highest point in Osuna, one can contemplate the splendor our town enjoyed in the past, specifically in the 16th century, its golden age. This was the result of the work of the four Counts of Ureña, who transformed Osuna into a monumental city.

The The Collegiate Church of Osuna is its religious temple most important. It was built between 1531 and 1535; the external appearance is quite modest, in contrast to its interior richness.

Its austere exterior leads us to the Puerta del Sol, which offers incredible views of the white houses contrasting with the ochre of the ashlar masonry. Without a doubt, a stop at this panoramic viewpoint is one of the must-sees. Things to do in Osuna.

The University of Osuna

This University originally taught Theology, Law and Medicine, towards the 16th century.  It is still in operation today. Associated with the University of Seville, it is a large rectangular building around a central courtyard, and its corners are decorated with turrets whose spires are topped with ceramic tiles in honor of the Immaculate Conception.

Osuna has one of the best-preserved historic centers in Andalusia, where its palaces stand out, such as the one of the Cilla of the Cabildo (notice the detail of the Giralda on the facade) or the one of the Marquis of La Gomera, which is currently a four-star hotel.

In my opinion, our Calle Sevilla is also very interesting, with the Govantes and Herdara Palace, which was the seat of the Osuna Courts, the Arjona and Cuba House, now the Osuna Museum (don't miss the Room of Fire and Ice, in honor of the American series Game of Thrones) among many others.
